A DIFFERENT WAY TO HEAT YOUR HOME

What is an air source heat pump

An air source heat pump uses heat from the outside air to help heat your home and provide hot water.

Unlike a traditional boiler, it works most efficiently by providing steady, consistent heat over longer periods, rather than heating your home quickly in short bursts.

That means the way you use your heating may feel a little different at first – but you shouldn't need to constantly adjust it.

HOW IT WORKS

1

Takes in heat

The unit outside your home absorbs heat from the outside air – even when it's cold.

2

Warms it up

The heat pump increases the temperature of that heat and transfers it into your home's heating system.

GETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR HEATING

A little different to a traditional boiler

Set it and leave it
Once your home is at a comfortable temperature, try not to keep adjusting it. Your heat pump is designed to maintain a steady temperature throughout the day, so you don't need to regularly turn it up and down.

Turning the temperature higher won't heat your home more quickly – give the system time to do its job.

Expect a gentler heat
Your radiators may not feel as hot as they would with a traditional boiler. This is completely normal.

A heat pump uses a lower, more consistent temperature to gradually warm your home, rather than delivering short bursts of very hot water to your radiators.

Keep it running consistently
Avoid regularly switching your heating system on and off. Your heat pump is designed to work efficiently over longer periods, maintaining the temperature of your home rather than repeatedly allowing it to cool down and heating it back up again.

HOT WATER

How your hot water works

Your air source heat pump also heats the water stored in your hot water cylinder, ready for you to use around your home.

Your hot water is already set up for you, so you shouldn’t normally need to make any changes. If you use a large amount of hot water, simply allow the cylinder a little time to heat the water again.

Leave the settings as they are
The Panasonic control panel near your hot water cylinder manages your hot water settings. We recommend leaving the pre set settings unchanged unless advised otherwise, as changing them could affect how your system performs.

A weekly heating cycle is normal
Your system will automatically heat the stored water to a higher temperature once a week as part of its normal sterilisation cycle. You don't need to do anything when this happens.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A few things you might be wondering

We’ve answered some of the most common questions about using and looking after your air source heat pump below. For more detailed technical information, you can also view the full Panasonic user manual.

Should I leave my air source heat pump on all the time?

Yes. Your air source heat pump is designed to stay switched on 24/7 throughout the year. It will only run when needed to maintain the temperatures you've set, so you don't need to keep switching it on and off.

Why don't my radiators feel as hot?

This is completely normal. Air source heat pumps operate at a lower temperature than traditional gas boilers, so your radiators may feel warm rather than hot to touch. They're designed to provide a gentler, more consistent heat over a longer period.

How do I change the temperature in my home?

You can change the temperature using your Honeywell Smart Thermostat or the Resideo Honeywell app. However, once you've found a temperature that feels comfortable, we recommend leaving it there rather than regularly adjusting it.

Your heat pump is designed to maintain a steady temperature and responds more gradually than a traditional heating system. If you do make a change, keep it small and give the system time to respond before adjusting it again.

Can I turn individual radiators down?

Yes. In rooms with thermostatic radiator valves, you can turn individual radiators down slightly if needed. However, we don't recommend turning them off completely, as the system is designed to maintain a consistent temperature throughout your home.

Should I change the settings on the Panasonic control panel?

No. The Panasonic control panel near your hot water cylinder contains pre set settings for your system and we recommend leaving these unchanged. Your heating should be controlled using your Honeywell Smart Thermostat or app instead.

What happens if I use lots of hot water?

Your hot water is stored in a cylinder, so after using a large amount it will need time to heat back up. Your hot water settings are already set up for you and shouldn't need changing.

Why does my hot water get hotter once a week?

This is normal. Your system automatically runs a weekly sterilisation cycle, heating the stored water to a higher temperature. You don't need to do anything when this happens.

Does my air source heat pump work when it's cold outside?

Yes. Air source heat pumps take warmth from the outside air and are designed to continue providing heating and hot water even when outside temperatures are low.

Do I need to do anything to look after the outdoor unit?

Keep the area around your heat pump clear of snow, ice and debris. Don't cover the unit or place structures or large plants within one metre of it, as this could affect its performance.

Does my air source heat pump need servicing?

Yes. Your full heating system should be serviced annually by a qualified professional. Annual servicing is required to maintain your comprehensive warranty.
