Harron Homes has commemorated champion cyclist Tom Simpson by donating an exercise bike to Serlby Park Academy in Harworth, Nottinghamshire for last month’s School Sports Week (June).

Tom Simpson sadly passed away during the ascent of Mont Ventoux during the 1967 Tour de France. Harron Homes’ new development is part of Harworth Group PLC’s Simpson Park, named after the famous cyclist, who was a much-loved local to the area.

The upcoming Harron Homes development will boast a range of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes, covering 107 acres in an idyllic location. More than just providing homes, the development will form part of a whole vibrant community, with plans for a new school, landscaped parkland and a family pub nearby.

Harron Homes’ donation of the exercise bike will encourage the local schoolchildren at Serlby Park Academy to get more into cycling and be inspired by the memory of Tom, while at the same time promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Natalie Griffiths, Sales and Marketing Director for Harron Homes North Midlands, said, “We’re delighted to be able to offer the school this piece of equipment. School Sports Week is a wonderful occasion that encourages fitness and teamwork, things vital to everyone and especially to young people.

“At Harron Homes we pride ourselves on giving back to our communities. Being able to have an opportunity to commemorate the great Tom Simpson is also a massive bonus. We at Harron Homes are all very inspired by his legacy.”

Simpson Park is situated at Harworth, Nottinghamshire, DN11 8AD; however, interested parties are invited to visit the company’s sales cabin at Harworth Colliery FC, located at DN11 8AE, where homes are now selling.
