Nottinghamshire couple Jessica Humphreys and Joseph Costello have launched their lives together at Harron Homes’ Thoresby Vale in Edwinstowe after falling in love with Jessica’s parents’ house on the same development.

Jessica (31) and Joseph (25) moved into their three bedroom Bamburgh exactly a year after Jessica’s parents moved into their five bedroom Edlingham just over the road.

Dental Receptionist Jessica said, “The location is spot-on for us. I’ve been renting just down the road in Ollerton and always loved Edwinstowe, it’s such a lovely area. We were wowed by my parents Edlingham – especially the “Titanic” staircase! – so when the opportunity to join them at Thoresby Vale came up we jumped at the chance.

“I’ve always been close to my family and now I can practically wave to them from my window. It’s brilliant for the kids too, they love being able to walk over to their grandparents which is certainly handy for babysitting!”

The three bedroom home is perfectly sized for the couple, 11 year old Evie, eight year old Oliver, and dogs Ruby and Betsy.

“The Bamburgh is such a well-designed house. There’s plenty of space for the whole family and I’ve been clever with storage to maximise it, for example creating cubbies under the stairs. I love that Harron made the semi-detached homes mirror images; we don’t hear a thing from the neighbours!

“The new-home aesthetic is very much my style, I love a neutral colour scheme and really leaned into that bright fresh look.

As a self-proclaimed social butterfly, the open plan kitchen-dining space really sold the house to Jessica.

“Our favourite part of the house is the kitchen; we splurged on the quartz countertops on my parent’s recommendation and it was so worth it. Apparently we’re the only Bamburgh to have them and we’ve set a bit of a trend since other buyers saw our kitchen and did the same!

“It’s such a lovely social space too; we’ve installed a TV so the kids join us in there, and with the open plan layout and big doors opening onto the garden patio it’s going to be amazing for summer get-togethers. I’m always inviting people over for tea and cake so having  that space was really important to me when house hunting.”

It’s not just Jessica’s parents who are welcome to tea and cake.

“We’re so grateful to the Harron team for making the whole buying process goes smoothly, they almost feel like family at this point! I’ll still pop in and see Michelle in the sales office; she was incredible at keeping us updated and involved in the process.  My dad is a site manager and Joe works in construction too so we were confident in Harron after seeing how well they built my parent’s house, plus the site manager has been so on the ball with addressing the few tiny issues we had.

Now the family has settled in, they don’t need to venture much further than the development.

“There are some stunning walks around Sherwood Forest we’ve taken full advantage of with the kids and dogs, and when the country park is finished it will be ideal to have that on the doorstep. The plans to make Thoresby Vale almost a mini village with a school and shops are very exciting.

“We also love the community that’s developed at Thoresby Vale, everyone has been so friendly and welcoming.

“I adore being at home, sometimes I look around and can’t believe this space is mine. It’s magical.

“We’ll be celebrating our house move anniversary with my parents for a long time to come!”

Thoresby Vale is located at The Avenue, Off Ollerton Road, Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, NG21 9PS
