Harron Homes recently teamed up with Bank End Primary Academy in Barnsley near its Nevison’s Fold development to assist in the school’s “mappings” module, developing year two pupils’ navigation skills and helping them familiarise themselves with their local area and road safety.
Dressed in hi-vis jackets donated by Harron, 26 pupils from the year two class participated in a walk to the development which not only addressed road safety but also highlighted the natural features of the area.
Teachers Cassie Willamson-Bunting and Lisa Walters led the pupils on the nature walk to Nevison’s Fold with Harron Homes’ Marketing Coordinator Rebecca Blake and Sales Executives Janette Fearon and Sue Kidd-Smith.
Along the way the children were encouraged to look out for items marked on scavenger hunt cards provided by Harron Homes. The cards included local natural sightings such as birds and plant life, and highlighted road safety features to look out for including traffic cones and different kinds of crossings. Once the pupils arrived at Nevison’s Fold they received Waterstone’s vouchers to congratulate them for completing the walk safely.

It promotes safe practices walking to and from school and also teaches our pupils about nature. We all thoroughly enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the pupils will now be safer in the dark evenings with the hi-vis jackets.”
