A team supported by Harron Homes North Midlands has helped raise more than £1,600 for veterans’ charity Phoenix Heroes CIC, after accompanying amputee strongman Darren Greenfield on a courageous ascent of Ben Nevis.
The former World’s Strongest Disabled Man Darren completed Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK at 1,345 metres. He was supported by former Special Forces soldier and television personality Billy Billingham, three-time World Champion angler Rob Hughes, PenPod Overland Trailers owner Ian Pennington, and our own Operations Engineer Daniel Hoole.
The ascent formed part of a wider Three Peaks challenge launched to raise funds and awareness for Phoenix Heroes CIC, our Charity of the Year. Following the completion of Ben Nevis, the team made the responsible decision not to continue the remaining peaks due to the risk of injury.
The effort has so far raised £1,607 for Phoenix Heroes CIC, with further fundraising activity still ongoing through Harron Homes and Phoenix Heroes. The team will be attempting the Guinness World Record attempt for the fastest Three Peaks ascent by a full amputee in due course.
Phoenix Heroes CIC supports veterans affected by PTSD and other life challenges, offering access to therapy, housing support, employment opportunities and long-term wellbeing services. The charity has now supported more than 1,000 veterans.
We also sponsored the team’s challenge T-shirts, helping to raise visibility for the campaign throughout the challenge weekend.
Earlier this year, we named Phoenix Heroes CIC as our Charity of the Year for 2026, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the armed forces community.
Matt Barker, Managing Director at Harron Homes North Midlands, said, “Everyone involved in this challenge should be incredibly proud of what they achieved. Darren’s courage, determination and commitment to raising awareness for Phoenix Heroes has been inspiring, and we were proud to support Dan and the wider team.
“While the challenge had to stop earlier than planned, the decision to prioritise safety was absolutely the right one. The focus has always been on supporting Phoenix Heroes and the veterans who benefit from its work, and raising more than £1,600 so far is a fantastic achievement.
“We’re looking forward to continuing our fundraising activity with Phoenix Heroes throughout the year.”
Daniel Hoole, Operations Engineer at Harron Homes North Midlands, added, “It was a privilege to be part of this challenge and to support Darren, Billy, Rob, Ian and the Phoenix Heroes team.
“Taking on the Three Peaks is a huge undertaking, and Darren showed incredible resilience throughout. The most important thing was making sure everyone stayed safe, while continuing to raise awareness for a charity that does vital work for veterans and their families.
“We’re grateful to everyone who has donated so far, and we hope people will continue to support Phoenix Heroes as fundraising continues.”
