Harron creates house upgrade for retirees

A North Yorkshire couple have refused to bow to retirement convention, and have chosen to taken advantage of Harron Homes’ Part Exchange Scheme to buy a bigger home at The Hawthornes, Harron’s Carlton development in North Yorkshire, a far cry from the bungalow they initially set out to buy.

Janice and Philip Charnock have lived in nearby South Milford for the last 37 years, and were looking to downsize now their two daughters, Victoria and Alexandra have moved out and started families of their own.

“We started looking at bungalows to downsize from our three bedroom home, but most weren’t big enough,” Janice said. “We took a look at Harron’s Far Grange Meadows development, in Selby and are so glad the team there suggested we go to The Hawthornes because as soon as we saw the Ingleton that was it for us!”

Their children may have left home, but the couple is as involved in their lives as ever.

“We’ve recently welcomed our fourth granddaughter and it’s brilliant to see them all growing up.  We help out a lot and see them pretty much daily at the moment, between school-runs so it was important to stay close by. We often joke we’re kept busier now than we ever were working!

“The Ingleton is perfect for family life, with four bedrooms there’s plenty of space for visitors and the kitchen is ideal for entertaining.

“That was one of the main selling points when we first saw the house, and now we’ve seen it with the upgraded marble tiling it’s very exciting to picture getting settled in.

“The other big thing for us was that you can actually fit a car in the garage! Quite a lot of people use the garage for storage nowadays, but we’re car enthusiasts who like keeping them out of the elements so the double garage was a big plus.”

Best of all, the couple was able to purchase their new home without draining their retirement savings, and without the hassle of selling their current home.

“We were slightly worried the Part Exchange scheme sounded too good to be true at first, but it’s been exactly what was said on the tin!

“We were offered a very fair price for our current home, and the sales team has done a great job at keeping the process moving and stress-free for us. The most we’re having to do is box up our house, which after 37 years of accumulating things is proving a mammoth task!”
