We are delighted to announce that as part of our community outreach programme we have recently donated £1000 to the Selby Abbey 950th Anniversary Roof Appeal, raising money to restore the roof which is in urgent need of repair to prevent water seeping into the stunning historic building.

The Abbey is one of the oldest churches in England, founded by William the Conqueror in 1069. Sadly, over time the lead on the roof started to fail, and with it the masonry beneath. With much of the roof being medieval, restoring it was of great importance to maintain the historic nature of the Abbey in Selby. The Abbey plays an integral part of the community’s history and culture, we are thrilled to be able to help restore this beautiful building.

We recognise the importance of preserving a building with such great history and heritage, and as Selby Abbey is a pillar of the community, we were delighted to be able to support the appeal.

Jeremy Gaskell, the Appeal Director at Selby Abbey said:

“We are very happy to have received financial support from Harron Homes, and it is great to see a local developer committed to helping the community.

“The maintenance of buildings such as the Abbey is a difficult, and expensive job, and it will take the kindness of the community to ensure that the Abbey’s roof can be fully restored to its former glory. This donation will go towards the first phase of the restoration project.”
