If you’re in the process of saving up for a new home, maybe you’ve just recently moved or your budget is tight, chances are you’re not going to want to splurge on a holiday abroad this summer. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still take a well-earned break, relax and enjoy the sunshine.

In June, the UK experienced its hottest day of the year so far with temperatures soaring to 34 degrees centigrade. And with plenty more warm days to come, it’s time to turn your home into the perfect staycation destination.

Here’s how you can make holidaying at home your best vacation yet:

    1. Give your home that freshly cleaned hotel room feel

There’s no reason why you can’t recreate that feeling of stepping into a luxury hotel in your own home. Take some time to clean the house top to bottom the day before your staycation, or even better, treat yourself and pay a local cleaner to do it for you. Just think, all the dishes done, the floors washed, the bathrooms sparkling and your bedding freshly clean sheeted – the perfect way to begin your break.

    1. Bring something new into your home

Whether it’s a vase of freshly cut flowers from your garden, some candles or new bedding, consider adding a little something extra to make your home feel special. The tiniest changes can make a real impact. Maybe you could change up the colour scheme in your living room with different cushions, bright towels for the bathroom or get some special summer tableware for all the meals you’ll be enjoying outside. Treat yourself to something new and it’ll be a constant reminder of your fantastic staycation.

    1. Plan special meals and try something you haven’t had before

Whether you’re planning to stay in and cook or head out to your favourite restaurants, spend some time thinking about what you want to eat and put together a schedule for every day of your staycation. Have a look through your cookbooks and pick out some new recipes and research any local restaurants you’ve been hoping to try. Decide what you’re going to eat and, importantly, who is going to cook it. Be sure to share the workload so everybody has a chance to relax.

    1. Revamp your outdoor seating area

There are plenty of ways to make your garden feel more like a luxury resort without breaking the bank. Just have a look on Pinterest and you’ll find plenty of ways to turn wooden pallets into the coolest seating around. Eating al fresco is bound to give you that holiday feel. Add some fairy lights and a fire pit and you’re good to go.

    1. Take plenty of photos

We put so much time, energy and money into keeping our homes clean, organised and beautiful, so why not show them off? The time you spend relaxing in your garden is just as precious as the time you spend sunbathing on a faraway beach. So don’t hold back on the photos and proudly share what you’ve been up to on your staycation. Who knows, maybe you’ll encourage others to do the same!
