Our talented North Midlands team have been showing off their baking skills and raising cash for a good cause along the way, as part of the  Great Harron Charity Bake Off.

Entries ranged from gingerbread men and cornflake clusters to cupcakes and brownies, with some highly creative and impressive designs on display.

Our Managing Director for the North Midlands, Ian Pendlebury, picked out his favourite three designs aesthetically and, following a taste test, ranked them first, second and third.

The proud winner was PA to the Construction Director, Emily Stevens, with her scrumptious Spiced Orange Cake, complete with orange flavoured icing and a candied orange peel topping.

In second place was Liz Osborne, our Sandlands Park Sales Executive. She baked an eye-catching Malteser Cake, adorned with treats including Maltesers and chocolate fingers.

Land Director Carl Oxley rounded off the top three with a delicious Walnut Spongecake.

All three were presented with medals for their efforts, whilst Emily was rewarded with a bottle of Prosecco as the overall winner, and the whole team enjoyed tucking into the array of treats on offer.

Each smaller item, and slices of each larger one, were available in exchange for a £1 donation.

With staff from neighbouring businesses stopping by for a slice of the action, and a baking-themed quiz raising £1 per entry, an impressive total of £160 was raised.

The proceeds will go to our nominated charity, Bowel and Cancer Research.

Alison Taylor-Shaw, Sales Director Designate for the North Midlands, said: “It was a really enjoyable occasion. We were extremely impressed with the variety of bakes that our team produced and delighted with the way that everyone really got into the spirit of the event.

“Our nominated charity does vitally important work, researching illnesses that continue to affect many thousands

of lives here in the North Midlands and millions more further afield. This cause is personally meaningful to a number of our team and we were thrilled to be able to support it through our Great Harron Charity Bake Off.

“Some of our staff are already working out what they’d like to bring in for next year’s Bake Off, so we’re hoping to make this an annual event. We are also supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning later this month, at all of our developments in the North Midlands region.”
