A smart start for the SpartansYoung footballers at Ferrybridge are turning out in style, thanks to a local housebuilder.

Harron Homes has provided the Ferrybridge Park Spartans under-11s team with smart blue and yellow strips.

And wearing their new kit for the first time, the youngsters won their first game after suffering a string of defeats.

Assistant manager Coultas Richardson said: “The Spartans looked the real deal in their new strips and we had our first-ever victory, beating North Duffield 7-1.

“The kids loved the kit as much as their win. Thanks to Harron Homes for everything, they have certainly brought us luck!”

He added: “We only started the team recently so we’re very grateful and on behalf of the team, I’d like to thank them for their generosity.”

The Spartans were set up by Coultas and manager Jason Hammond, with coach John Talbot. They were formed too late to join the Selby and District league for this season, but are training hard and playing friendly games.

“These are all new roles for the three of us, but we have the parents backing us all the way,” said Coultas.

“We are giving boys and girls who haven’t played before a chance to be in a team. We’re improving, the atmosphere is really good and the players can hold their heads high. We just missed out this time but we hope to be playing in the league next season.”

Katie Charlesworth, Sales Director for Harron Homes, said: “We’re delighted to support the Spartans and wish them every success.”
